  7.     They faked their singing; he faked his life. That's the way
  8. it adds up for VANILLA ICE, the rap artist who is the latest
  9. recruit for the newly created Milli Vanilli School of
  10. Falsehoods. Vanilla Ice painted a colorful life for himself,
  11. claiming he grew up street-tough in Miami, went to the same
  12. school as rapper Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew and won three
  13. national motocross championships. But student journalists of
  14. Miami's Palmetto High, his supposed alma mater, dug up the
  15. truth. Seems that Vanilla is actually Robert Van Winkle, the
  16. product of a white, middle-class Dallas suburb who never went
  17. to high school in Miami or won a single national motocross
  18. championship. Sure, lots of show-biz bios are embellished, but
  19. Ice insisted that his rough background contributed to his rap
  20. artistry. Does suburban life work just as well?
